寻秦记·大明家 Finding Xi’an Restaurant | Authentic Northwestern Chinese Cuisine in Richmond, BC

I have to say I was a little disappointed. We ordered three dishes, but flavor-wise I couldn’t really see why the place was so packed. Maybe I’m just not used to the so-called Northwestern Chinese flavors. The sour plum drink, though, was quite good. However, the portions of their dishes are still quite generous.

Pretty good new xian noodle spot, with very tasty biang biang noodles. Not pictured is their braised pork side dish, which was really soft and tender. Cold noodles were okay, I wished they had the gluten pieces in it that’s usually included.

The food is excellent! What stood out most to me were their Shaanxi cold noodles — incredibly authentic and flavorful. If you eat there, you absolutely have to try them!

It’s hard to find good Xi'an spots in town but Finding Xi'an Restaurant is worth the drive. Service is no frills but they drop off a teapot. Dishes come out incredibly quick. They ask for spice level (hot, medium, mild, non-spicy). - Rice ($2.50) - Classic roujiamo (pork) ($6.99) - pork was moist but greasy - Sesame sauce liang pi ($8.99) - delicious - Hot and spicy liang pi ($8.99) - Signature 5-in-1 noodles ($17.99) - opted for the biang biang; wide noodles had a great bite. Delicious with ground pork, tomato, egg, cubed vegetables and hot chili oil. My favourite dish - House special pork ribs ($9.99) - ribs were a touch dry, sauce was thick - Chicken braised in brown sauce ($9.99) - tender but similar in taste to the ribs - Seafood in casserole ($19.99) - opted for rice noodles. Broth was homey, good variety of items (tofu puffs, prawns, beancurd strips, spam, fish balls, bok choy, quail egg, kelp knots) - Pork rib in casserole ($17.99) - opted for potato noodles, medium spice. The food here is absolutely delicious and authentically captures the flavors of Xi’an. What impressed me even more was the service—they truly exceeded my expectations. Every single staff member was friendly, patient, and gave off a genuine sense of sincerity that felt heartfelt. It’s easy to imagine that they are just as kind and nice in their personal lives. If I ever crave this taste again, I will definitely come back!

If you are a noodle lover you must try this place! Super authentic and flavorful Xi’an cousine, I was also blown away by their portion! The biang biang noodle was chewy, it’s a must try. We also had this sticky rice cake with osmanthus jam, it’s soft and fragrant, 10/10!!

I've been here many times. If you've had real Xi'an food, this just satisfies a craving. In Richmond, though, it's a flavor most people can accept—hence the upgrade from food court to restaurant. Service still feels like food court level. I always feel very thirsty after eating here. This time, the five-in-one noodles had an old oil taste, but the rest was okay.

Finding Xi’an Restaurant (寻秦记·大明家) I ordered the Lamb Paomo, Roujiamo (肉夹馍), Liangpi (凉皮), and the Four-in-One Biang Biang Noodles (四合一????????面) — all were authentic, flavorful, and satisfying! The lamb soup was rich and aromatic, the roujiamo had crispy bread with juicy, tender meat, and the noodles were perfectly chewy with bold Xi’an-style seasoning. Service: The service was fast and efficient, with dishes arriving quickly after ordering. The staff were friendly and helpful, keeping everything running smoothly even when it was busy. Environment & Parking: The restaurant is clean and comfortable, with an authentic northern Chinese vibe. However, parking is quite limited, so it might take a bit of time to find a spot—plan ahead if you’re driving.
